Serving Hands, Transforming Lives
On April 12th, members of St John’s Ivyland’s church family, our friends and neighbors, were able to pack over 11,000 nutritious and deliverable meal kits with the help of Rise Against Hunger (RISE) to help address global food insecurity.
RISE delivers pre-packaged meal kits to areas of the world where people are experiencing poverty and a lack of access to food, specifically targeting children and families when possible. Through years of work, RISE has observed that feeding children can increase their opportunities to go to school, and that the education children receive can transform families and communities.
The meals packed at St John’s this spring have been shipped to assist people in Vietnam.
Located in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is the easternmost country on the Indochinese Peninsula. While poverty rates have decreased in the past decade, many minority groups, especially in rural mountainous regions of the country, continue to face food insecurity. Frequent natural disasters that cause flooding and landslides create further instability for many families who rely on farming for income.
The Global Hunger Index, which assesses food insecurity based on indicators that measure undernourishment and undernutrition, categorizes the country of Vietnam as a whole as having a “moderate” level of hunger. Rise Against Hunger serves in the regions of Vietnam where hunger is most urgent
